Working together to help children thrive
At St Andrew’s and St Mark’s, our vision is for every child and family to experience "life in all its fullness". We recognise that a child’s success is built on a strong partnership between home and school. To foster this connection, we have established the SASM Family Hub, a dedicated space designed to build community links and provide an open, trusting environment where families feel supported and heard.
The Family Hub consists of weekly workshops held every Friday morning. These sessions are led by a variety of experts, including our school leadership team, Educational Psychologists (EP), and Education Wellbeing Practitioners (EWP).
The Hub serves several vital purposes:
• Building Belonging: It offers a regular opportunity for families to "share" and connect with one another, strengthening the feelings of belonging within our school community.
• Information and Support: Workshops are designed to inform parents and carers about key pedagogical approaches and provide practical strategies for supporting children at home.
• Collaborative Environment: We use these sessions to maintain a proactive and transparent relationship with our families, ensuring that your voice is part of our school’s strategic journey.
We tailor our workshops to the current needs and interests of our community. In the Autumn term, our Family Hub hosted 58 different parents and carers for sessions covering a wide range of topics, including:
• Belonging and Relational Practice: Understanding our school’s heart-led approach to behavior and inclusion.
• Autism Awareness: Strategies and insights for supporting neurodivergent learners.
• Executive Function (Study Skills): How we teach pupils to plan, focus, and become independent learners.
• Supporting Literacy at Home: Practical tips for boosting reading and writing skills.
• School Avoidance: Expert advice on supporting children who may struggle with attendance.
The Family Hub is an entitlement for every family. We are proud that our sessions see high engagement from across our diverse community, including families of pupils with SEND and those eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant.
In the spirit of collaboration, we occasionally invite families from other local schools to join us, and we frequently host SEND parent champions to provide peer-to-peer support. Whether you are looking for specific advice or simply a chance to meet other parents over a coffee, the Family Hub is here for you.
