Clubs
We now have more clubs than ever before! It has been fantastic to see pupils take up externally-run opportunities from art to taekwondo this term!
SASM's Curriculum Clubs have also begun, with the choir learning new songs to prepare for Young Voices, Write On! experimenting with mission briefings and STEM club making Lego robots.
Author visit: Rob Biddulph
On Monday 21st September, we were delighted to welcome Rob Biddulph to SASM. Rob is the creator of #DrawWithRob, and was named Illustrator of the Year at the British Book Awards in 2025. Rob led a whole-school workshop about his book, The Last Wolf, which included a live draw-along. Rob stayed to sign copies of his book and our library now proudly displays our artwork inspired by the visit.
Targeted Teaching Groups (TTGs)
All children at SASM have access to small group or 1:1 evidence based TTGs to help give them additional support in an area they may currently be finding tricky. Our TTGs are all run by our trained staff. TTGs are agreed following discussions amongst all the adults that work with the children, reflecting work in class, attainment, behaviour and wellbeing. TTGs run termly and are reviewed at the end of every term and we are careful about when they are scheduled. All parents of children who access a TTG will receive a report through Arbor which explains the TTG and its aim for the pupil. Upon the completion of the TTG, an updated Arbor report is sent out, stating the progress made. By this method all families are aware of any additional support their child is receiving, what it is and its impact. TTGs are an important part of our quality first teaching reflecting our high aspirations for all pupils both in and out of the classroom. For more information of the breadth of TTGs offered, please see our website: https://www.sasm.kingston.sch.uk/equality-diversity-and-inclusion/send-information
Prior to parent consultation week, the TTG Arbor report for this term will sent out so that parents can discuss the TTG with their class teacher should they wish.
Coming soon: Harvest Service
Four times a year, our school community gathers at St Andrew's or St Mark's church to worship together. Our next service is our Harvest Service on Friday 23rd October at 9:30am in St Andrew's church. Follow our Google Calendar (above) to keep up-to-date with SASM events.
Flu Vaccinations on Friday 9th October
All families received a letter via email from the NHS immunisation team, who will be visiting SASM on Friday 9th October. Please do make sure you have signed the digital form prior to their arrival. If you would like to know more about the flu vaccine, please visit the NHS website.
Parent Consultations - Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th October
Booking for our Parent Consultation sessions go live this evening via Arbor. These sessions give you an opportunity to speak with your child's class teacher, focusing on how your child has settled into the new academic year. Please note that the school day ends at 2:20pm on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th October in order to accommodate the consultations.
School Parliament Elected
Our School Parliament is the heartbeat of pupil voice at SASM, with 60 pupils actively involved in shaping school life. All pupils began the school year by choosing a committee they would like to be a part of, preparing and delivering a speech and voting for a class representative. Using the first-past-the-post electoral system, each class elected an Advocacy, Learning, Faith, Environment and Wellbeing MP. Here is a description of each role:
Advocacy MPs: Lead campaigns on local and global issues, acting as "agents for change" within and beyond our school gates.
Learning MPs: Work alongside staff to influence the curriculum and provide feedback on how we assess and learn. They have a vital role in the recruitment of new staff, completing site tours and giving feedback to the interview panel.
Faith MPs: Help deliver collective worship and ensure our diverse community's religions and cultures are explored and respected.
Environment MPs: Are advocates for the school environment and beyond. Responsibilities include running the school Eco-Refill Shop and actioning the school's Climate Action Plan. They also consider safety on the school site.
Wellbeing MPs: represent the school at events, such as WellFest, and work with the school to help pupils feel safe.
To deepen their understanding of democracy, our MPs visit the Houses of Parliament and take an active role in school governance, including conducting learning walks and interviewing new members of staff
SASM awarded 'Gold' Travel for Life Award
We are committed to promoting healthy and sustainable travel to and from school, working with Transport for London to complete a number of activities with children to show them the benefits of walking, cycling or scooting to school. This work has also included promoting rail and road safety and road laws, such as not parking on zig zag lines. It fantastic that SASM has been recognised for this work and awarded gold status!
Home learning
All year groups have now begun home learning, following the expectations sent to all families on 1st September via email. Our home learning webpage has more information and guides to support families with logging into Doodle: https://www.sasm.kingston.sch.uk/teaching-and-learning/home-learning
Family Hubs
We recognise that a child’s success relies on a strong partnership between home and school. To help strengthen this connection, we run the SASM Family Hub—a dedicated space designed to build community, share information, and provide an open environment for families.
What is the Family Hub?
The Family Hub hosts regular Friday morning workshops and drop-ins led by our school leadership team, staff, and visiting experts (such as Educational Psychologists and Education Wellbeing Practitioners). It is designed to:
Give families an opportunity to connect and support one another.
Share practical strategies on topics ranging from literacy support and executive functioning to SEND and wellbeing.
Keep an open, transparent line of communication between home and school.
Uniform and snacks reminders!
Uniform: A guide to school uniform can be found here. We ask families to donate uniforms that their child has outgrown to the school office. Any family can pick up a uniform from the school office at no cost. Black trainers are permitted as part of uniform. However, shoes should not display a logo and have black soles.
PE kit should be worn to school on class PE days. If a pupil has a sports club and it is not their PE day, they need to come to school wearing school uniform; they can change at the start of their club if they would like to do so
Jewellery Policy: No jewellery of any kind (including all earrings and studs) is permitted. Children wearing ear jewellery will be asked to remove it and will not be permitted on the playground for safety reasons. If your child has recently had their ears pierced, please send them to school with clear, flat plastic retainers. If your child wears a piece of jewellery as part of their faith, please speak to us
Please do not send your child to school with biscuits, sweets or unhealthy food as snacks - your child will not be permitted to consume these - more information can be found on our website: https://www.sasm.kingston.sch.uk/parents-carers/school-meals-and-break-time-snacks
